When selecting a wine, how do you decide? Some may refer to expert reviews or scores, others might read wine articles by journalists, and some may choose based on label design or even with intuition. Everyone has their own way of finding a bottle that they enjoy. While a reliable ranking can be equally a useful guide, Drinks International, a U.K.-based media announced last week "The World’s Most Admired Champagne Brands" 2025 list.

This year, the top 40 Champagne brands were selected and, among these highly regarded Maisons, Louis Roederer tops the list. This remarkable achievement marks the seventh time they have taken the top position in the ranking’s 12-year history—and the sixth consecutive year in the first place.

There are many reasons behind this achievement. Louis Roederer continues to receive high praise for its ongoing evolution, innovation, meticulous attention to detail, and consistent quality across its range. They have in particular placed a strong focus on their vineyards that they have inherited over the family's generations, enhancing terroir expression by converting to organic farming, etc. In 2021, they renewed its NV/MV cuvée as Collection, introducing a modern and up-to-date concept that adapts to evolving conditions, including climate change. Undoubtedly Louis Roederer remains a leader in the Champagne region.

The second place in the ranking went to Krug, followed by Bollinger in third, and Billecart-Salmon in fourth—all keeping their positions from the last year. Charles Heidsieck has moved up two spots to fifth, while Pol Roger secured sixth. The result highlights the strong presence of legendary Champagne Maisons at the very top of the ranking.

This ranking is determined by a panel of selected wine professionals from around the world, according to Drinks International. The evaluation criteria include: the quality and consistency of the brand, the strength of the branding and marketing, the price-to-quality ratio across the range, how much they respect and admire the champagne house, how strong the brand is in relation to its peers.

Champagne making requires tremendous time and patience. It has longer aging requirements, meaning the wines being prepared today won’t be released for at least a few years. Some prestige cuvées often take over a decade until they are ready for release. In order to continue to be at the top, maintaining consistent quality, and keeping innovation with long-term visions and investments for the future are necessary.

When searching for your favorite Champagne brand, this ranking might be of your help. If you are interested in learning more, reading the full report by Drinks International will provide deeper insights into the latest trends shaping Champagne today.
